Craving a protein-packed, budget-friendly meat alternative that’s actually delicious? Say hello to homemade seitan chicken! As it's having a moment on TikTok lately, so here is my version. It’s juicy, flavorful, and packed with plant-based protein, making it a perfect for those vegan comfort food cravings.

If you rather avoid those overpriced store-bought meat substitutes that have way too much salt and are filled with additives, but sometimes crave those textures, this homemade seitan recipe is a game-changer. It’s easy to make, nutritious and super versatile.

  • One serving packs over 20g of protein!

  • Costs way less than store-bought vegan meat.

  • Zero weird additives

  • No fancy kitchen gadgets required. Some kitchengadgets can make this recipe even faster though (e.g. food processor or pressure cooker, the modifications are in the recipe).

  • Versatile and comforting

I use vital wheat gluten for my kitchen experiments with meat replacements. I really find it a miracle ingredient! When this flour is kneaded well, it will form a stretchy, chewy dough that resembles the texture of some meats. This ingredient you probably won't find in every grocery store, but at most bulk stores, you can buy it for relatively cheap :)

Tips for the Best Seitan Chicken

Don’t over-knead – Too much kneading can make it tough.
Use cold broth – Helps create a softer texture.
Steam before baking or frying – This locks in moisture for juicier results.

Homemade seitan chicken is a game-changer for me because it is such a cheap and easy way to get those satisfying, chewy, juicy textures while eating a plant-based protein, made from scratch. Let me know if you created this recipe for yourself and what you thought of it.

I'm happy you're here. Enjoy your experiment :)
